Staying motivated on your fitness journey can be a difficult thing to achieve, but luckily there are multiple ways to achieve this. If you are struggling to maintain a consistent exercise program or timetable and find yourself skipping time at the gym or working out, these simple strategies can make all the difference.

Setting Goals:

While this may seem pretty simple, it can almost be the most effective strategy. Goal setting can have a large impact on a person’s motivation, as it provides an end point and a reason for exercising. The goal must however follow the SMART principle; therefore, it needs to be specific, measurable, applicable, realistic and time-based. If you set a goal that is SMART, you will now have a greater desire to achieve it.

Keep a record of progress:

Whether you keep a record of your training program and your progression in weights, time or any other method, keeping track of your progress will help motivate you to continue your training. By being able to reflect upon the progression you have made and the positive changes that have occurred from your training, you will find it more and more difficult to skip a day or revert back to your old habits.

Train with a mate:

Finding somebody to train with can have huge benefits to your motivation levels as now you have that other person to rely on to help you get out of bed. Finding a training partner will make it that much harder to miss a day as you have that person waiting and looking forward to training with you. It gives you a greater sense of accountability to show up and will also make you train that much harder.

Personal Training Sessions:

Personal training sessions can be a great motivator to your fitness journey as you will have a trained professional there to guide you on your journey. They can provide added motivation to get you out of bed as they will be ready and waiting for you to arrive for your session. They will be able to set out a plan for you to be able to meet no matter your situation and ensure that you are getting the most out of each session.
